A zebra foal is a baby zebra, typically born after a gestation period of around 12-14 months. They are born with their characteristic black and white stripes, although the stripes may be brown or gray at birth and darken as the foal grows older. Zebra foals are usually able to stand and walk shortly after birth, and they are able to keep up with the herd within a few hours. Zebra foals are very social animals and will often stay close to their mother for protection and guidance. They will nurse from their mother for several months before transitioning to a diet of grass and other vegetation. As they grow, zebra foals will begin to play and interact with other members of the herd, learning important social skills and behaviors. In the wild, zebra foals are vulnerable to predators such as lions, hyenas, and wild dogs, so they must learn quickly how to stay close to the herd and follow the lead of the adults. With the protection and guidance of their mother and the rest of the herd, zebra foals have a good chance of surviving and growing into strong, healthy adults.
