The name Chandra Taal means "Lake of the Moon" in Hindi, and it is believed that the lake changes its shape with the phases of the moon. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and is fed by glacial water. It is also the source of the Chandra River, which flows into the Bhaga River and eventually into the Chenab River. The lake is known for its crystal clear water and the reflection of the surrounding mountains in its surface. Chandra Taal Lake is a popular destination for trekkers and adventure enthusiasts. The trek to the lake starts from Batal, which is a small village located on the Manali-Kaza road. The trek is about 14 km long and takes around 5-6 hours to complete. The route is scenic and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The lake is open to visitors from June to September, and camping is allowed in the designated areas. The lake is also a popular spot for stargazing and photography. However, visitors are advised to carry warm clothes as the temperature drops significantly at night.
