Harpers Lake is a small lake in western Montana, near Clearwater Junction where Montana Highway 200 meets Highway 83 at the southern gateway to the Seeley-Swan Valley. It sits in the upper Blackfoot River country, a landscape of open grassland, ponderosa pine and rolling glacial terrain framed by distant mountain ranges. The lake is managed by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks as a fishing access site, and it is popular with anglers, especially those fishing for stocked trout. Its location along a well-traveled route makes it a convenient stop for travelers heading toward Seeley Lake, Missoula or the Blackfoot Valley, and it offers simple camping facilities. Visitors tend to find a quiet, unpretentious spot where calm water reflects the surrounding pines and sky. Mornings and evenings can be especially peaceful, with wildlife and birds common in the area, and in winter the lake is used for ice fishing.
