Vršič Pass is a high mountain pass in northwestern Slovenia, located in the Julian Alps. It is the highest pass in Slovenia, reaching an elevation of 1,611 meters (5,285 feet). The pass serves as a connection between the Sava and Soča river valleys, linking the towns of Kranjska Gora and Bovec. Vršič Pass is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The road over the pass, known as the Russian Road, was constructed during World War I by Russian prisoners of war. It features numerous hairpin turns and is a popular route for tourists, cyclists, and motorcyclists. In winter, the pass is often closed due to heavy snowfall, but during the warmer months, it is a favored destination for hiking and exploring the Triglav National Park. Key attractions near the pass include the Russian Chapel, built in memory of the Russian soldiers who died during the road's construction, and various hiking trails that lead to scenic viewpoints and natural landmarks.
