Madeira Park is a small unincorporated community on the shores of Pender Harbour, on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast, northwest of Vancouver. It sits on the Sechelt Peninsula along Highway 101 and is reached from the Lower Mainland by ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale, followed by a scenic drive up the coast. It serves as the main commercial hub of the Pender Harbour area, with shops, services and marinas clustered near the water. The area is defined by its sheltered, island-dotted harbour, rocky shorelines and forested hillsides that rise steeply above the coves. Boating, fishing, kayaking and hiking draw visitors, and the mild coastal climate keeps the landscape green for much of the year. Life here moves at an easy, small-town pace, with many residents connected to the water. The community's name reflects its settler history. Joseph Gonsalves, who came from the Portuguese island of Madeira, settled in the area, and the name honours his homeland. Long before that, the Pender Harbour region was home to the shíshálh (Sechelt) people, whose presence along this coast stretches back thousands of years.
