The Beechcraft D-17 Staggerwing is a classic biplane designed and built by the Beech Aircraft Corporation in the 1930s. It is renowned for its distinctive "staggered" wing design, which places the upper wing behind and above the lower wing, allowing for better visibility and stability. Chico, CA is home to a beautifully restored Beechcraft D-17 Staggerwing, which is owned and operated by the Chico Aviation Museum. This particular aircraft was originally built in 1940 and served as a military trainer during World War II before being retired in 1945. After spending several decades in storage, the Staggerwing was acquired by the Chico Aviation Museum and underwent a complete restoration in the 1990s. It is now fully operational and regularly flown at air shows and other aviation events around the country. The Beechcraft D-17 Staggerwing is widely considered to be one of the most iconic and beautiful aircraft of the Golden Age of Aviation, and the Chico Aviation Museum's example is a true testament to the skill and dedication of those who have worked to preserve this piece of aviation history.
